The helping hand of the Newstrade

To Provide welfare for persons who are, or have been, employed in the selling and distribution of newspapers and magazines in the UK, including their immediate family and dependants who are in need, hardship or distress.
To Provide welfare to qualifying beneficiaries and to deliver those funds in ways which deliver the best value of support in the context of rigorous governance.
The NewstrAid Benevolent Fund has been in existence for over 170 years. Founded in
1839 by, amongst others Charles Dickens, to provide welfare for the desperately poor
newspaper street sellers of London, NewstrAid has since expanded to cover the whole
of the UK and everyone involved in the retailing, wholesaling, distribution and circulation
of newspapers and magazines -
Over the years, NewstrAid has helped thousands of people up and down the land. (Click here to see The Nightly Miracle). As well financial help, our team of volunteer almoners has made sure that our beneficiaries feel the emotional support that makes such a difference to their lives. Many of them tell us that just knowing NewstrAid is there makes a difference to their lives.
Our network of area committees covers the UK and their role in raising funds and seeking out new people we can help is at the very backbone of what we do. Without our area committees and volunteer almoners, NewstrAid simply would not be the news trade’s own charity.
